Has anyone used the external ROM in the 17xx REUs successfully? Does anyone know of anyone who has done this? I have yet to hear of anyone doing it, it mostly appears as a throw off kind of statement, "and the 1750 REU has ROM socket that can be used like the internal ROM at U36".
[Edit] Ok, I see KeyDOS has been used in there, and the 64hdd guy has an AutoRamDOS hardware project that looks interesting. Still... has anyone on here used the external ROM and can they report their experience with it? I would have to have the actual socket installed as I have a 1764 with just the empty space ready for soldering, no pre-installed socket.

I suggest you ask Mirkosoft. He seems to be fond of ROM chips... both internal (function ROM) and external (cartridge ROM). I don't own an (EP)ROM burner, so I have only played around with ROMs in VICE

I have a 1750, I installed a socket and haven't had any problems using eproms in it. Right now I just have the KEYDOS ROM installed since it's the only one I use with the REU. When I installed the socket I also put pins in the jumper points so I could use small jumpers to adjust the settings (no more (de)soldering jumpers).
BTW: My REU has the long REC not the square one.

Nice idea with the pins. I think mine has the square one. I'd have to look to be sure. Does it make a difference which REC is in there?

I'm not sure, I've never owned one with a square REC. I've seen other messages where people are having problems using eproms in their REUs. I don't remember which REC they had, or if it was mentioned, but I thought I'd mention it anyway, just in case.
