Well, not good for those who still want to use BASIC 8, too. So, that means, distributing it on disk would be a better idea. Yes, BASIC 7.80 is incompatible with BASIC 8... because BASIC 8 is incompatible with BASIC 7.0 (for shame)!
So yeah, if you want both in a ROM, best to use some kind of switch...
Software distribution is another alternative which is allowed on a non-profit basis. (I give it to everyone for free, so don't let me see it being sold ) Edit I have no doubt, Robert B, you would distribute this in a legally-compliant fashion! Distribute all you want... the more the merrier!
In regards to a previous post, BASIC 7.80 has no effect on JiffyDOS (ROM)... however it will not work with "Software JiffyDOS" (because they both use the popular $1300 region of RAM).
Putting it on ROM is another beast altogether... it was designed to be loaded from DISK. A 'ROM-Friendly' version would require a little work Well considering all the bank-switching that is needed, a better prognosis is a considerable (but not astronomical) amount of work /Edit

The idea is to give each attendee a BASIC 7.80 disk as part of their Commodore "swag" when they enter the room. Now if I could design a nice label for the disk (with the help of C= designer Larry Anderson)... The disk will go along with the CommVEx poker chip that each attendee will receive. > In regards to a previous post, BASIC 7.80 has no effect on JiffyDOS (ROM)... I doubt that the CommVEx attendees are aware of soft-JiffyDOS. > Putting it on ROM is another beast altogether... it was designed to be loaded from DISK. I thought that the kinks in a ROM version had all been worked out. Besides, putting it on ROM would be more costly and then not every CommVEx attendee would get it. A ROM version would have been a door prize with only a few people winning it. A disk version would let everyone have a chance to get it (and even if they don't want the program, they can reformat the disk for a different use). Freebies are good! O.K., the freebie BASIC 7.80 disk has been announced at the CommVEx website and forum. Freebies are good! Robert Bernardo July 18-19 Commodore Vegas Expo v11 2015 - www.portcommodore.com/commvex

Cool! I hope people appreciate all the V7 BASIC commands this software allows for their 80-column screen!
(Once again, wish I could attend in Vegas, but my job allows not)
Edit Agree... Great door prize! /Edit

Ack! In all the preparation for CommVEx, the BASIC 7.80 disk was not mass-copied. That's what happens when I don't delegate responsibilities. Oh, well, there is always next year's bigger and better CommVEx. Still in Las Vegas after CommVEx, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group www.dickestel.com/fcug.htm

Thanks for the report! You are not totally to blame... I should make more effort to get out of my job to attend CommVex (for example, cut my employer's fiber)

I should have said, "V.P. Roger, while I'm busy doing this, start copying the 40+ disks of BASIC 7.80 we need for the attendees." But I didn't do that, thinking I could do it later. Other CommVEx matters stole my attention, though. hydrophilic wrote: > ...(for example, cut my employer's fiber) I don't understand. Fiber? Still in Las Vegas after CommVEx. Either that or he meant dietary fibre. (Think "My boss is giving me all the [dung] assignments!")
