Back in the day, around Windows 2000, the Win OS had a really nice help system. Almost all system dialogs had a "help" option. And the "help" was always relevant to the task at hand.
Beginning with Win XP (a little) and Win Vista (extreme), help became less reliable. Half the time (or more) when you ask for help, the OS would attempt to retrieve some file from the internet... well that is marginally acceptable if your PC is working fine and the internet is up and running (useless if your PC is broken and has no WWW access). Help has gotten progressively worse with Win 7 and Win 8.
Now with Win 10, Help isn't even available from the start menu! And most OS dialogs do not even give a "help" option. And worse, when they give you a "help link", just try clicking on it (for giggles). You would (well, I truly do) think it would open a specific help page from some MS server... sounds reasonable, right?
But no... on the few OS dialogs that offer a link for help, they just launch Internet Explorer with Bing search engine query about your topic.... So now MS has no help for you... they are relying on Internet search engines...
If you doubt me, here are two screen shots...
1. First is an OS dialog with a link for help ("Understanding color management settings") [ICM for those in the know]
2. Second is what happens when you click that "help" link... a Bing search page (in IE) that defaults to "Here's the shortcut for Paste (Ctrl + V)".... I hope you agree this is NO HELP in regards to the original issue (ICM)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In summary, Windows 10 is a lot like a C64... no help for you! (Rely on others to MAYBE help you)
Linux MAN pages can be difficult to use, but at least they give you relevant info... if I didn't know better, I would think MS is trying to force people to use Linux (or Mac).
Please comment.... am I wrong... did I miss something... is help irrelevant today... (So many questions, to which I have NO answers)
