It looks good. I didn't hook up the sound even though it just goes to the 1702 to the left so... yes, i am lazy. There isn't any particularly great amount of flicker, just the usual, which... Interlace can have much of the flicker (all of it usually) removed by simply lowering contrast. The graphics are Boulderdashy, very much so.And Rockford is well animated. I took it from a few feet away so I wouldn't get large diagonal artifacts in the picture; as a result the resolution sucks a bit. Sorry. I'll try to get a closer one. It looks good closeup!
Let us not talk falsely now The hour is getting late
The sound isn't working correctly. At least with the SID in my flat 128. Which works fine. The footsteps sound is always on and is down REALLY low. I can't seem to get a good pic with my iphone. The display is really sharp with the contrast up well past the point the where the white is flickering but I can't get a good pic of that, it's just too saturated when I take the pic.
At today's FCUG meeting, we gave the game the full test on the club's flat C128.
> I need to add some text at the bottom showing the timer and gems etc...
Yes, statistics at the top or bottom would be good, like number of the level, amount of lives, and score.
> I got sidetracked trying to work out sound and making the SID work...
Yes, we agreed the game needs sound effects and/or music.
> How does it look?
The little guy runs fairly smoothly. Is the game running in SLOW mode or FAST mode? We invoked the FAST command before running the game, but it seemed to make no difference in the smoothness of the play.
> ...does it flicker much?
There was some interlace flicker on the Magnavox RGB-80 monitor, but it was minimal.
> Do the graphics look convincingly like Boulderdash?
Yes, they do. One concern was that it was difficult to see the exit door for the next level; the exit had the same red color as the border. I thought that the exit should be a different color so that it could be distinguished from the border. Another member thought the exit should look more like a real door, i.e., not have the same pattern as the border.
> Does Rockford animate well?
I liked how his eyes blinked quickly and regularly. Should the rocks fall faster? I say this, because it was easy to move out of the way of (outrun) a falling rock and thus not get squashed.
And those are are the notes that were taken. I did take one photo and about 30 seconds of video. I'll let you know when they are posted.
Thanks! All good feedback. Glad to know you liked it
I have not managed to play a SID from the compiler but I can do basic sounds so I might just add pings and crunches during the game as that will make it feel a lot more like a proper game.
It runs in fast mode, it applies it itself on run so no need to type it yourself. The player moves in time with the falling rocks and as far as I remember you could always outrun them on the original. I am trying to make it as close as I possibly can.
