Just wanted to say hi. Ive been reading these forums for quite some time now. I dont have much time to tinker with my 128D as I have a full time job. And when Im not there, Im generally working on a PC game that I hope one day to convert to the 64/128.
With that in mind I was going to start a series on my website involving the experiments I was conducting with the 128 and a Commodore ranger 15" high persistence monitor. I was at the point of realizing some new hi res/low res, high colour modes. However, my monitor decided to pack in. Fortunately, I managed to jot down some fairly comprehensible notes before it all went bad, so I should be able to pick it up again at some point.
Currently, Ive made up a lead that lets me view the vdc output on an analog RGB low res Sony BVM 20" monitor, so I can at least still try some tinkering.
I hope I can try to get involved in the small 128 'scene' and come up with something special that I know the C128 is capable of. I mean, look at the C64 demos coming out lately.. I believe they are better than stuff that was coming out on the Amiga 500 initially! If the C64 can do these things then the 128 can definitely do more.
Watch this space then eh? Lol :-)

Welcome! Any code you can contribute would be appreciated, considering the low volume software for the C128 verses his little brother Sorry to hear about your monitor! Glad to hear you could hack a simple RGB solution in the intern... which means you have hardware skills which are also valuable to the community.

The only code that I have created so far was the vdc test suite (see my reply in the max resolution thread started by mirkosoft) which apart from testing the resolution limits also killed my monitor! Its written in basic but you are welcome to it if it will help you. I have something a bit more advanced planned but it may take a while. :-)

Yeah i know! And them monitors are not exactly common. Infact, apart from a spec in the amiga hardware database and a scanned page from computer shopper magazine the only other mention of that monitor on the net and pictures are the ones i put up. This has really made me think twice about doing such testing on delicate hardware again, or not taking the screen size outside the monitors comfort zone. And the vdc can EASILY wreck a monitor (eg switch on ega flag whilst displaying on a C= rgbi input monitor) so I would be careful before letting others loose with any monitor wrecking code! :-)
