Before this Sunday's FCUG meeting, I have to go to the storage and pull out a 1084 monitor to replace a member's dead 1084. While I'm in the storage, I might as well pull out the Blue Chip 128 disk drive that is sitting in there. I bet the members have never seen that 1571 clone. Now where is the external power supply for it? Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group www.dickestel.com/fcug.htmJuly 30-31 Commodore Vegas Expo v12 - www.portcommodore.com/commvex

Ive never come across a 1571 clone. I wish there were more 1571 drives in circulation. Its a real pain trying to get c128 disks (d.71) to the 128 when I only have a 1541 with the XM cable and the internal 1571 on my 128 d. I know I can use the cable with my 128 but its at the other end of the room! Got any photos Robert? Maybe knowing who the mechanism is made by can help us all know which drive mechanisms we can use with the 1571 logic board.

I have seen and owned a few the blue chip drives for the 64 and for the 128 other than being cute I would rather have a real 1571
mrbombermillzy if all your 1571 needs is a head assembly , hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of new head units were on ebay a few years back , so they should not be hard to find today
I have over 40 1571`s and a few needed a new head unit , now they work like new only issue I ran across is I have a 1571 that uses a totally different drive inside and the head unit would not work in it , its the only 1571 that I have seen that a different drive inside

I actually try to pick up any 5.25" drives that I come across just in case I can use them for replacement 1541/71 mechanisms if I ever need to. I currently have an Amstrad unit (which I believe was made as an external unit for the PCW and/or CPC+ range) along with a 1541 and a 1570. None of which are any use in making .d71 disks with though, especially as I only have C128DCR's with built in controller boards. Its a bit of a pain but... oh well.

Ah, I see. We have 1571's in storage, but of course, they are North American 1571's with 120v power supplies. However, I see a replacement at blog.worldofjani.com/?p=2131The MeanWell PT-65A power supply has input voltages from from 90 to 264 VAC, making it usable in North America and in the rest of the world. In other words, we could convert our North American 1571's to be multi-national 1571's. I have friends from the U.K. coming to the states in mid-June. If you want a 1571, I suppose they can transport it in their luggage back to the U.K.. Then they can post it off to you (they live in Haywards Heath, W. Sussex). Then you'd have to convert it to use the MeanWell PT-65A power supply. Whilst I appreciate the kind offer Robert, I wouldn't dream of putting someone out by having them transport old disk drives for me in their holiday luggage!
However, it would be nice to have a proper 1571 :-)
I'm sure the easiest option is for me to just get hold of a UK spec 1571 at some point from e/amibay... or better still, just change the room around so my C128DCR is next to the PC.

For your information, I will be back in the U.K. in 2017. My base of operations will be in Crawley. So far, I will be carrying in a NTSC C64 for my friends at the Netherlands Commodore Show.
