I think I remember when I had a C128, I sent Matthew Desmond money and received a registered copy of Desterm. It did not nag you about shareware at startup, or say it was a beta you shouldn't distribute. I think it had his picture at startup but said "registered." I believe it was 2.01, because I remember that number being on my status line for years. It had REU support, and could load huge (by those days' standards) files into memory, which was very helpful with the capture buffer/editor. It also worked really well with a CMD hard drive.
I'm trying to track 2.01 full/registered down now, and all I'm seeing is unfinished betas after 2.00. There's a copy of 2.01 that's on all the sites on the Internet (believe me, I've been on about a dozen) that doesn't say it's a beta in any of the download descriptions, but if you run it, there's a splash screen that shows at startup saying do not distribute...and it's buggy. The only reason I mention this is in case you're tempted to just google "Desterm 2.01" -- you'll probably find it, but it's almost certainly a beta unless you've found something I haven't. They don't say so in the item descriptions, but if you download and run it, you'll see.
It's also occurred to me though that maybe I'm misremembering something. Was there even a full release after 2.00? I think there was, but it's been a long time. I see there was later a 3.x series that ended unfinished at 3.02, which looks interesting, but that seems to have bugs of its own. Also, someone on Lemon64 years ago said something about Desterm 2.03 full, which may have existed for all I know.
Just thought I'd ask, since I really doubt Matthew Desmond is still in the C128 shareware business (so he's probably not going to get hopping mad if the full version gets distributed now), and surely someone out there besides me actually registered their copy of Desterm in those days. If you have 2.01 full (and it existed), do you think you could upload it somewhere?
