Hi,
I have a C128D which was working fine. The last two disks I have used in it, it has destroyed. Symptoms: It starts to read normally then will make a screeching/grinding noise, when the disk is taken from the drive you can see rings have been gouged out of it so I am guessing the head is digging into the disk itself.
Before I open the computer up and start playing with it, I would like to confirm how difficult it is to fix this problem and if anyone had any particular suggestions to start with?
Thanks.

The head needs to be aligned after fixing the issue with it touching the disk. I heard it is difficult to get it right and requires a disk you can trust being written by a properly aligned drive. I would try to find someone who has experience to reparing drives to avoid causing more damage.
