My 128 works great... except the space and left shift, which don't work at all at the moment. Any good suggestions of what to do/to check out?
NB: I don't know how to use a soldering iron. I don't even own one.

have you cleaned the contacts under those keys? Sometimes using a pencil eraser helps clean them.

I haven't. Planning on getting a screwdriver (Torx T8) to actually be able to open up the keyboard and then I'll give that a try.

You'll need a soldering iron to remove the tabs which hold the metal shield onto the board... unless somebody has opened it before and did not re-solder them.

I take it the keys are traveling and returning well. My 80 column and caplock keys were missing the spring when I got my spare $10 128 a couple years back. Note: It's a PITA to remove the key caps without breaking the shaft, you have to pry from both sides equally although for 30 year old plastic everything is holding up remarkably well.

Yeah, the keys seem to be working OK, just nothing happens when you press them. Complication #1 is that one of the screw heads for the keyboard is slightly stripped, so I can't even get all the screws out. Ugh.

Pliers to grip the screws then gently twist them out maybe using to locking type.

Deep inset screw. I have no good way of getting it out in my toolkit!

A small bit to drill through the screw maybe then, very carefully.

Yeah, its been a while since I cleaned C128 keyboard, so I forgot you don't need to remove the metal shield from the mother board to get to the keyboard... but you will have a hard time cleaning the keyboard contacts if you don't disconnect the locking keys (SHIFT, CAPS, and 40/80). These have been soldered (on the few keyboards I have seen). However, because the keys you need to clean are near the edge of the board, you might be able to get at them... just be carefull not to break the little wires going to the locking keys.
Did you ever get the screw(s) out?
