I can't get double pixel mode to work when setting character width and spacing to 8. The only thing I have seen working is the mapping the c128 example where it sets the character width and spacing to 9, for some odd unexplained reason. But the characters actually won't be 9 pixels wide. They become 8 anyway. What the hell is wrong with this chip?

At least the C128 Programmer's reference guide tells you as much:
"In the pixel double-width mode, the value written to R22(3-0) should be 1 larger than the numbers described above."

Ah, so it is documented! I have looked at Mapping the C128 as my bible, but maybe not for the VDC then.

The C128 Programmer's reference guide is the "official" documentation by Commodore and as I've learned the best for VDC.
