After a hiatus of having my old computers put away in storage for 10+ years, I opened up and started them up. To my surprise almost all the components worked. These last few months I have been upgrading and verifying their use. I have come to a very strange case with my 1581. Initially, the 1581 was found that the floppy drive had a seized spindle drive. I tried freeing it to no avail. Rummaging the PC boxes I replaced the drive with a Teac FD235HF-6240 (Thanks to Ray Carlsen - 1581 Hard Tip) and installed a JiffyDOS rom. I enjoyed it enormously both with my C128DCR and ZoomFloppy. I verified all my old floppy, played a few games, and threw away the dead. This worked for one day.
The next day, it would not work on the C128DCR. The drive would flash red but there were no error. There was nothing when trying to get information but a flashing red. The strange thing is the ZoomFloppy works without any problem. Even using it with Vice. I have a Teac FD235HF-3240 on its way from ebay. I will use it as last chance. Any help or advise would be appreciated.

the best option for a 1581 is an Amiga 500 internal drive I had to do this once or twice in the past, can't help on why the modded PC drive is not working in the 128

The fact that is still works with Zoom Floppy indicates to me that drive is okay, and therefore, something is afoul with your DCR. I can only imagine coincidence (bad luck) or less likely that your drive somehow generates bad voltages... the "bad voltages" is EXTREMELY unlikely, but based on your description, it is the only thing I can imagine besides "bad luck".
Sorry I guess that isn't very helpful, but thought I would comment just in case it might inspire you towards the "real" solution.

Do you have it set to device 9? The 128 does not like 2 device 8s.
