I know of two disks that will check speed and alignment of the 1571 drive (in a 128 D or not). The best is the 1541/1571 Physical Exam from Cardinal Software, and an alignment program from Free Spirit Software. I see plenty of bootleg copies of the Free Spirit program on ebay (Do NOT buy one - a copy will not work as advertised!) I do see the 1541 Physical Exam on ebay every now & then. I hope you can find one. Good luck.

My C128DCR has giving some problems. First the screen would not show in the 80C, then intermittently the C1571 would not read the diskettes, now at turn on the screen will show the green banner but not the "ready" prompt and I have to reset the drive for the "ready". I was thinking about getting one of those Diagnostic Cartridges or any other diagnostic tools that you guys reccomend. Are there any CRT files that I could copy to the C1541U-II for example? I am not incline in buying a disk since my drive is not really reliable now? Thanks. There is a user over on lemon64 called "boulderdash" who also runs an ebay business. Ask him about the cartridge approach. You will also need the wiring harness that goes with the cartridge. Boulderdash will explain what's what. He's extremely trust worthy.

I just found this forum in a thread on lemon64, so I thought I would see what's up here. I still use a real C-128 w/1571, & 1764 (512K now) and a 1080 monitor. I am glad to see another C-128 site. I started with Timex/Sinclair, went to a TI 99?4A with expansion rack (two floppies, 64K of RAM, and printer) then went to C-64, C-128, then Amigas. I have kept using the C-128 through all of this.

We had a two meeting demo of the Spartan at our old user group (the Annapolis Commodore User Group) back when they started selling. Rather amazing piece of kit.
