I don't know about VICE128, but on real hardware that looks about right. Or rather, on a C128 that looks right for 64 mode vs 128 mode. Play the same music file in 64mode and 128 mode, tempo is a little quicker in 64 mode. I used a version of Wachet Auf written for to check it some time ago, similar disparity of 128 mode being about 7/8 as fast as 64 mode. I have no idea about the real hardware C64. Mine has crapped out, works only with a few cartridges.

Has anyone used the external ROM in the 17xx REUs successfully? Does anyone know of anyone who has done this? I have yet to hear of anyone doing it, it mostly appears as a throw off kind of statement, "and the 1750 REU has ROM socket that can be used like the internal ROM at U36".
[Edit] Ok, I see KeyDOS has been used in there, and the 64hdd guy has an AutoRamDOS hardware project that looks interesting. Still... has anyone on here used the external ROM and can they report their experience with it? I would have to have the actual socket installed as I have a 1764 with just the empty space ready for soldering, no pre-installed socket.

This is in both 80 column and 40 column. In the external slot in 40 col the options for space or esc are not printed to screen, if I press space for options I can type 's' blindly to skip scan and get back to a working screen in 40 col. IN 80 col the options are printed to screen just fine. It seems to work fine for both 40 and 80 col in the internal slot. In the external slot only 80col seems to work. Still, your drive scans seem to start taking place before esc or space are pressed unless they are pressed immediately after the message appears on screen. And then the drives can be left in a seemingly hanging state...

Tested without JiffyDOS. Result looks like madness: VIC works not, VDC works. Miro I have drive 8 as 1571, 9 as 1541, and 10 as 1541-II. This is because I have my real system set up that way. I lack a 1581.) I don't have jiffydos in my real system so I don't have it on my VICE running machine, a WindowsProfessional behemoth from the early 2000s. What drives do you have enabled? Do you have the ROM in the Internal or External slot? I find the response to the key press is slow and if I don't hit space or esc immediately and hold down to go to [options] or [cancel scan] one or more drives, for me 9 and 10 can be left in an error state with blinking red light on 9 and green light on 10. If I wait a bit before pressing either space or scan I can get just 9 to be in an error state. wait a little longer and 10 will also be left in an error state, so it looks like it could be your scans of the drives are not leaving them initialized. This could still be VICE messing things up... it seems VICE 2.3 can be iffy with 1571cr drives at least. I tried with 1571cr on U8 and VICE became .... unresponsive or unruly, depending...

I tried it on VICE 2.3. Worked fine. I had to put it in the external ROM/REU. 1571, 1541 and 1581. No jiffydos. BASIC 780 boot disk in 8. Worked fine.

On the real machine... SCALE treats true CIRCLES differently depending on how they are made. A circle created with just the radius, CIRCLE1,xc,yc,xr will not change proportionally whether it is drawn with SCALE1,1280,640 or SCALE1,640,480 activated. A circle created with x and y radius, such as CIRCLE1,xc,yc,xr,yr will change proportionally if drawn with SCALE1,1280,640 or SCALE1,640,1280 <scratches head> This seems to me to be a bug. Or maybe just to be expected... The second coordinate is available for SCALE to act on. But... In VICE the circle will change proportionally whether the y radius is added in the CIRCLE command or not under SCALE1,1280,640 or SCALE1,640,1280 <scratches head> Here is a program that demonstrates the difference. Try it on the real and the virtual and see CIRCLESCALE.D64 (170.75 KB)

Do you have a non-working 1571? That handle is the same.

I have an extra 1541. Not a II. Although my II did come with the handle off. In fact, the whole front assembly was off but in the box.
