Check, I did expect that to be the reason for use of only upper case. Do know however that the 80 column screen can actually display both lower and uppercase/PETSCII charactersets at the same time by use of the alternate charset attribute value. So it is perfectly possible to have both lowercase text and those border PETSCII chars on the same screen. Just print a CHR$(142) to use the uppercase/PETSCII charset and CHR$(14) for the lower case charset, and you can totally mix that on one screen simultaneously, even within a line, as many times as you want. That is a big plus of the VDC 80 column screen, in 40 column that is not possible simultaneously. Illustration in BASIC via VICE:

Hi,
Here is a little update, the program version is 1.9.3. At startup, the program verify if the switch key 40/80Col is down. He also present some configuration information during the initialization. And, in the configuration menu, you can now choose for the numbers between the French format or the English one.
