Hi All, I'm using Vice in C128 mode (80 col). I'm using 2.4 version on a win7 and linux computer I've got a problem with disks. I configure two 1571 drives with .d71 image. After a "catalog" or "dsave", for example, I must reattach the disk image. The light at the bottom of the window blink red. Is it a problem with Vice? I've tried with true drive emulation on and off. But, without true drive, nothing append. I've download the last daily build, this problem seems to be solve. But now, when a start the emulation, I must disable true drive emulation and than re-enable it. Otherwise, the emulation don't really start. I've got the "COMMODORE BASIC V7.0 ..." message, the first drive search something, the cursor never appear. Do you have also this king of problem?

GEOS works for me, but no files found on this PC! Sorry!! Must be on my SD-Card or another computer... I'll have to research the issue (I am not a big GOES fan, otherwise I would have the files at my fingertips). Although I am not true GEOS fan, I do like the OS, so I am very embarrassed to not have an immediate answer for you :/

The problem is not with geos, but in the commodore basic. I'm alone with this kind of problem? EDIT: I'm the only one who use VICE to code? Everybody should the same disk problem, no?

In VICE, GEOS only works for me with True Drive Emulation... maybe some hack is available that is not copy-protected? On real C128, original floppy disks work... I have not got GOES to work with uIEC / SD-memory-card... but I have not tried very hard

May be, I don't explain my problem very well.
I've got the drive problem directly when I launch Vice. I've got the traditional welcome message, but the cursor don't appear and the drive 8 works all the time.
Which version of Vice do you use?
I don't use geos

Well, I *rarely* use GEOS... only if somebody recommends a cool app I normally use VICE 2.1, 2.2, or 2.4... they all seem to work with GEOS... on my Win/PC... I never tried "download" version of GEOS on real CBM hardware because I have "official" GEOS disks to use... Pirate/Download versions of GEOS work for me in VICE 2.X if using "true drive emulation"... Err, sorry if that does not answer your question... give more details and I might be able to help!

Hi,
This is a Vice's bug. The emulator don't handle 1571 drive very well. Now, I use a 1541. :-)

Sorry, now I understand... the problem is not with GEOS. In fact, you never mention GEOS so I don't know what I was thinking
I have not used Linux in so long that I probably forgot my password (!), but in Windows, standard 1571 works for me with or without true drive emulation. Sadly, 1571 emulation is not as good as 1541, but I almost always use 1571 when using X128 emulator... and I have no serious problems. For sure, DIRECTORY and DSAVE work for me.
Many of the sample BASIC programs that I have posted in this forum were made on VICE 128 (x128) using 1571 drive.
However... I just tried VICE 2.4 and got many errors using 1571! For shame!!
I next tried VICE 2.3 and 2.2... no problem! See attached disk image (with stupid BASIC programs) = test.d71 (341.5 KB) So I agree, VICE 2.4 is totally fouled up in regards to 1571... in summary, do NOT use VICE 2.4 (use 2.3-) if you want 1571 to work!!

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I posted a bug report at Vice's site. For the moment, I use ver2.4 with 1541 drive. For the moment, I'm learning LM, it's enough :-)
But, I'll try ver2.3 too ;-)
