Hi group,
I was hoping for some help please.
Im new to commodore collecting could never afford them as a boy. Now i am a man and i have a couple of recent aquisitions.
In the bunch i have a couple of 128Ds Both boot in 64/128 both output 40/80 but one seems to act a little wierd.
It wont understand commands such as GO64 (it will boot from C KEY), it wont load a cart when just turned off and on (not sure how to load one otherwise) it loads tapes/discs fine kn 64 mode.. I think i had trouble loading a disc jn 128 mode. It seems/my intuition tells me its more of a software/program thing??? (Guessing) bith these machines were from the same house, 2 boys apparently owned them. They have a heap (like 400 games some i cant even track) over half are boxed with mint, numbered collectable condition. They have everything boxed mutant camels, dr creep, imp mission etc etc and many many others.
The reason i think one computer may not work as the other did is because i have a hunch they were into pirating and wondering if one machine may have been run/set up slightly dif (not even sure this is possible?) the reason i think this is they have a heap of wierd carts, time machine, isepic, freezeframe, all these other wierd hardware based carts. Reading isepic manual it seems to be focussed on copying software.
Could the machine be set up/work with different language? (Run in a wierd way) If so is there a way to take it back to default? Sorry im a bit of a novice, hope i decribed things okay.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the basic rom and/or kernal rom.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the basic rom and/or kernal rom. Thank you, thats a much better way to put it. Thats what i was kind of thinking, there are carts like fast loaders, 128 expander? I was wondering if one of these carts may need to be in? Was it set up to only run with them? Or final disc? I have a couple of final discs? Original com discs are there can i fix basic? (Ill go get my manual out) Thanks for the help

If there is something wrong with it, you can have all sorts of strange problems. I found some info on the Z-80, but not as it directly effects the C-128 - maybe you will better luck googling this problem.
