Hey guys, I finally got around to starting my V9958 VDC cart project for the C64!... The VYM Cart. I have posted a small project page for it here: www.6502.org/users/sjgray/projects/vym-cart/index.htmlAs a bonus I added a small 9-voice sound chip ;-) Comments or suggestions are welcome. That looks like a super interesting project. Since you access the chips through IO areas, I suppose it would be easy to mod it to run on a VIC-20. On the C128, you get the added benefit of double speed and more RAM. By all means, keep us posted! P.S.: The V9958 seems to have the same package as the C64c's large 64 pin PLA. I'm waiting for a batch of PCB's to arrive. Should be in about 3 weeks. I may make a VIC-20 version with ram. It seems the VIC-20 could use a nice 80-column video with sprites, and better sound cartridge. Steve

sjgrayMaybe what you could do for the VIC is keep your C64 vym board as it is and make a small "pass-through" board for the VIC expansion port which redirects the IO lines to the right place and add a small 32kx8 SRAM and 74HCT08 chip which provides RAM expansion at BLK 1,2,3,5. I suppose this would be simpler than making a completely new board just for the VIC.

I do have one of Jim Brain's MasC=erade (sp?) boards somewhere that will adapt the board to VIC for testing. I think though due to the size of the VYM cart it might be better to just make a VIC version (if there is demand). I'd have more pcb area to work with. Once I get VYM working I'll look into it... Steve,
Is there a new link to keep updated on this project as the original one you posted is now broken (404)?
Thanks!

Steve, Is there a new link to keep updated on this project as the original one you posted is now broken (404)? Thanks! Oh, sorry about that. Yes, I changed the name to VYMS64 as I added RS-232 serial port, and "64" because I may eventually do a VIC-20 version. You can always check my general projects page: www.6502.org/users/sjgray/myprojects.htmlwhich will always point to the correct location (and you can check out my other projects while you're there). Or even better, start at my main page: www.6502.org/users/sjgray/index.htmlSteve

sjgraySuper cool project! Have you received the new board batch? Could you sum up the project status? Have you already started to interface it with the 6502 world? mirkosoftI'm sorry that you have received low feedbacks from your project. It looked very interesting to me.

Hi, yes I did receive the first "VYM" prototype boards on wed. I'm currently assembling the parts to build it. I also have additional parts on order still to arrive, but are not crucial. There are some issues with the board but I don't think they will prevent me from testing everything. I will apply any required fixes to the "VYMS64" design. I may have more news in a week or so. Yes, Please do post an update when you get it tested. This is a cool project. Also I am surprised to hear that you have received "low feedbacks" on this project. I am really looking forward to seeing it in action.
