just got a new smaller more compact VDC board run in today it is way nicer looking than the last ones I had made and easier to install as you can see all the way around the new board I will be assembling them and getting them listed on ebay very soon

Thank You I had built 5 and sold 4 off ebay today I ordered a total of (80) this time around I see I can squeeze a few more MM in width out of the next run to compact it down a bit more here is the ebay listing www.ebay.com/itm/Commodore-128-64k-VDC-Plug-Upgrade-No-Soldering-needed-/162112422206?hash=item25bea7413e if anyone is interested I am also working on several new cartridge boards , new switchless kernal (jiffydos) boards and a redneck eprom PLAmate board yes a very low end thing to play with but I had free space on the board order and a few other projects I hope to have more info and list in the proper sections for ea item I hope people like the (Mega-16) board and the huckelberry board (picks to follow once I build 1-2) if time doesn't slip away from me I will have a box of free hand outs at the commvex show ken.

I bought one of these boards and it is working perfectly with all VDC programs that require 64K. Unfortunately during the installation process I chipped the top of capacitor 25 that is connected to one of the original 4416 RAM chips on the c128D motherboard. I'm assuming the original VDC RAM chips are no longer used with the upgrade in place but I am concerned the damaged capacitor might somehow cause unforeseen issues with my C128D. Is it critical that this capacitor be fully functional for stable VDC display with the RAM upgrade installed? Any recommendations by anyone would be greatly appreciated to put my mind at ease. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what that capacitor does but it is probably best to replace it. That would put your mind at ease. Can you do it yourself or do you know anyone who can assist in the neighborhood?

I think they are just filter/smoothing caps to prevent ripple on the 5v supply. Each chip has one. Unless you short the exposed part (or its shorted already) it shouldn't hurt one bit. A couple of mine are missing a tiny bit of the edge and it all works fine.

Thanks for the advice. It happened a few weeks ago and besides the capacitor being damaged, everything still seems to be working perfectly. I have friends with better soldering skills than me who could replace it if comes to that. Even though everything seems to be working fine, I will most likely eventually get the capacitor replaced just to put my mind at ease once and for all.
