HI All,
As part of getting back into Commodore programming, I've been downloading a lot of programming books. The fact they are all available is great! But there are a few things I don't like about scanned PDFs:
1) I can't find the content I need (when I forget where it is) with my computer's text search. (yes, If PDF had been made with OCR'ed hidden text, it would be better)
2) They are typically 20-40 MB. Not terrible, but not great
3) They are not great for reading on Kindles/etc.
4) Sometimes I want those program listings.
So I've been wasting (I can't say "investing" with a straight face on this one) a lot of time converting them to editable documents. I try to test out all the programs on the way. This is pretty easy with ML and assembly listings, but hard with BASIC programs that use a lot of control characters in the strings.
I have a bunch in progress:
Done/Nearly Done:
Commodore 128 Assembly Language Programming
Compute's First Book of Commodore 128
Machine Language for the Commodore Revised and Expanded Edition (Jim Butterfield)
The Official Book for the Commodore 128
LOOONG ways to go:
Commodore 64 Advanced Game Design
Compute's Creating Arcade Games on the Commodore 64
Commodore 128 Internals - An Authoritative Guide
Commodore 128 Programmer's Reference Guide
Commodore 128 Tips and Tricks
Queued up for future (maybe):
Commodore 64 Assembly Language Arcade Programming
Advanced Commodore 128 Graphics and Sound Programming
Commodore_128_Reference_Guide_for_Programmers
Compute's 128 Machine Language for Beginners
Focus is on Assembly language and how-to-make-games. For some of these books, I'm just extracting any VDC info I can find (which is how I got started down this road). I'm hoping it will be helpful to others, it has actually been pretty helpful to me. Except the Computer 128 book 1, that was a mistake.
Anyway, if anyone is interested, or wants to help proofread, please let me know if you find bugs.
