Hey there! I got myself an EPROM programmer and before burning a copy of the Basic 8 ROM freely available on the net, I tried it out on VICE. Found out it takes almost 9 seconds to start in the BASIC editor and doesn't work as an external ROM either. So I decided to make a proper image for burning and found out there was another -even worse- problem: the code in the ROM is from 1989 edition, but it's lacking the patch file included in that version, so it would most certainly crash any time the patch should be required (don't know exactly when it is required). Thus, I made a new ROM image from scratch and wanted to share it here, being a C128-specific forum. You can download it from my page, where you can also find the source code to the code relocator and some explanations (in Spanish). Download link is at the bottom. Comments will be much appreciated! Regards, -Diestro

After all these years, I didn't know there was a problem with the BASIC 8 image on-line. Since I myself cannot burn the EPROM, I'll have a SCCAN member do it for me. Then I'll try it out. The Ultimate II+ cart supports external 128 roms, (not internal), so this is terrific! Thank you! Do you mind if I share on the Ultimate 64 / UII+ Facebook group?

Personal matters kept me away from the hobby for a while, and this went off my radar. I hope you have shared it at will. Cheers!

I put it in the function rom setting and select ROM. default boot the c128 into 80 column mode (f7 in a positional keyboard setting). Then reset with the f3 key pressed for a positional keyboard or the alt key for a symbolic keyboard. The boot screen should say WALRUSOFT BASIC 8 100861 BYTES FREE. That's when you know the rom is loaded and ready to roll.
Cheers, ~ c
