Possibly the last (and still in Beta) version of the DesTerm 128 family of terminal programs for the Commodore 128. The DesTerm 128 telecoms were once (arguably) considered the best terminal softwares in all of the Commodore 8-bit universe. The telecom function(s) brought forward by the 128 platform in combination with superior telecom softwares like this one were justifiable reasons the Commodore 128 was popular with Commodore sceners in the United States. csdb.dk/release/index.php?id=171068In my opinion, the Europeans (and others) didn't have the friendly POTS telco situation we had in The States following the breakup of the old AT&T conglomerate, circa 1983-1984. The rest of the world got into the online game late during this era and just couldn't appreciate what the C-128 brought to the table on telecom issues. ... a pity.

The DesTerm 128 telecoms were once (arguably) considered the best terminal softwares in all of the Commodore 8-bit universe. I do not recommend Desterm v3.02, because it randomly locks up the computer. Back in the day, I corresponded a little bit with author Matthew Desmond, and in my last e-mail to him, I told him about the lock-up situation. He had no answer for that. Far more stable is Desterm v2.01. Truly, Robert Bernardo Fresno Commodore User Group - www.dickestel.com/fcug.htmSouthern California Commodore & Amiga Network - www.portcommodore.com/sccan

........and as Desmond himself writes, and like I wrote above, this version is still in Beta !
Take it for what it is, a piece of history. No question the 2.01 version was magnificent, unless you run into the directory freeze bug with REU .. or some other rare oddity.
Cheers !

DesTerm 2.1 was magnificent. That's all I used on Compuserve and Genie. I used to get into the chatrooms on Compuserve and tell jokes using the buffer. You could fill your buffer with some long joke, go to a chatroom, unleash it there and just wait for the complaints because nobody else could keep up with their own posts. I was evil at this hee hee.

- Yeah I was on Genie for a little while back in 1996 over the winter. Mostly I just wanted to make sure T. Phelps really uploaded 4.1 heh. I remember the C64/128 users used to have spam wars with the Amiga guys in their chat forum. They would raid us and we would raid them, pretty funny stuff those guys were nuts. About 5 or more of us surfed over to their chatroom and just started dropping spam heh. It was all in good fun though I dropped Genie soon afterwards, but I continued to use CompuServe until about 1998. The CBM forums used to have a lot of stuff to download but they got rid of it a few years after CBM users were locked out. I'm glad that Genie saved their downloads section. I think WsDos 4.1 was the very last thing uploaded into the section where it is found, about November of 95.

I still can't figure out how to use DesTerm online on X128 to connect to BBS', though. It just doesn't work for me.

I know that my last uploads which were saved in the download section did not make it into any archive. The name Gaelyne Gasson dos not ring a bell but it's good to know those downloads were saved. Version 5 of wsdos is in that mess somewhere. I remember names like John Iannetta, Marte Brengle, Jim Butterfield. I just corresponded with Marte some time ago this year, she was the main honcho in the CBMAPP section. There were a lot of other names.
So DesTerm is still in beta. Hope Matt doesn't come around and read this he may want his shareware fee lmao.
