The speakers inside my monitor are showing (understandably) signs of age and as such the sound quality is becoming poor.
Is there a good alternative setup that would use external speakers? Would they need to have external power? What about cables?

Is that forum gone forever? If so is there anyway to retrieve some of the threads, particularly the one that discussed "how-to" issues? And what about the /wiki/doku part.? Is that also gone forever.?

Quite intriguing proposition but my desk is already full of equipment, it'll probably crash down with the weight of another monitor.

Maybe this is related to the posts about modern video hardware, but I am not sure. I am currently using a C1084S with my C128DCR and in order to switch column mode I have to press the 40/80 key on the keyboard and a button in the back of the monitor.
Is there a monitor (modern or not) that will sense the input video switching from the C128 and change the column display automatically?

A little late but maybe for next year.
If you are in the L.A. area there are a number of great spots to watch fireworks. Just about every town along the ocean has its own display. Great places are also Dodger Stadium (see special ticket packages) and Rose Bowl. I couple of years ago I went to Home Depot Center (now StubHub) to watch the LA Galaxy and the fireworks after. The food vendors stay open late although at a certan point they stop serving real drinks just the soft stuff. But the view from the stadium seats is wonderful.
