Though the Commodore LCD was never produced, there are a few prototypes still surviving with CBM engineers Jeff Porter and Bil Herd. To my surprise, Steve Gray and Mike Naberezny, et al, are trying to build a Commodore LCD out of currently available parts! And the Commodore 128 is part of this LCD resurrection! Thanks for the plug Robert!
In fact the VDC implementation is currently working! I have implemented a dual-port SRAM so that VDC memory is directly accessible to the CPU... No going through the VDC registers to write to the screen. SRAM also means no memory refresh issues. The CLCD did not have programmable fonts or colour but these could be easily added by using the VDC chip. I am currently running the VDC's RGBI output through an RGB2HDMI to a 10.2 inch widescreen LCD panel that is almost the exact same physical size as the original CLCD display panel, but alas, not the same pixels. I have a custom mx keyboard with custom keycaps, and a 3D printed case. The machine boots the CLCD Kernal (with a small patch to initialize the VDC) but does not currently support the menuing system since the MMU has not yet been implemented.

Quick update: The case is complete, with the lcd panel producing a full 80x16 display and booting to the machine language monitor. It has an RGB2HDMI installed internally. Check it out at my webpage as shown above!
