I want to give my commodore 128D a command, for example to create a list to read the diskette. I need the quotation marks for that, mine is above the 2 key, but when I press it the cursor moves one place further, just like the space bar. So probably key 2 is defective. Is there another option without using the quotes or is there another key combination to get the quotes on the screen?
Regards, Bart

You could type PRINT CHR$(34) to get a quote on the screen. Or PRINT CHR$(34)CHR$(34) to get two. And then use SHIFT+DEL (=INSERT) to produce the space needed between the two. To create a list to read the diskette you could also just type CATALOG or DIRECTORY

Then you are probably in C64-mode (blue screen, light blue text). The commands only work in C128 mode (dark grey background, light green text).

yes, that's right. And i now know what the prolblem was; i inserted a mouse on port 1, that gives problems on the keyboard. Now the " work fine.
But another question; when ik want to see what's on the floppy i have here i type the following as i remember well :
load"$,8 (when ready appears, i type list) ? Or is it different? Because it's a C128D not a normal C128
8 is in this case the floppy drive or not? when i connect a external drive , i think the C128 gives the external drive a different no. ?

Depending on the mouse this may interfere with the keyboard. I once had a bad CIA that led to some keys being disabled with a joystick plugged in.
Anyhow. C128 and C128D are the same system-wise. In C128-mode you can always type CATALOG or DIRECTORY and it will display the directory of drive 8. You can also type
"CATALOG U9" to get the directory from drive 9. LOAD"$",8 works in C64-mode and C128-mode as well
The internal drive of a C128D is usually drive 8. If you connect another drive YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE this is set to a different drive number. The 1571 has DIP-switches at the back for this. Other drives may even need a trace cut on the mainboard. If you connect two drives with the same number behaviour will be erratic and likely not work at all.

Welcome Bart! Good to see a fellow Dutchman C128D lover here. If you happen to have budget for it, getting an Ultimate II+ cartridge for the C128D can seriously make life easier, especially combined with Device Manager ROM. www.bartsplace.net/content/publications/devicemanager128.shtml(Made by a fellow Dutchman also called Bart 😎assuming from your question you are not the same Bart) Device Manager ROm enables you to make the C128D autoconfigure its drive IDs at boot time automatically, moving the internal drive ID t9 another free ID or even shut it down alltogether. This is very useful if you want to use any modern mass storage on your C128D as then normally the internal drive prevents that storage from using ID 8, while many software titles can only work on ID 8 (or even with only a drive on ID 8 and not a single other ID active). And of course the UII+ itself brings cycle exact emulation of 1541, 1571 and 1581 drives, 1571 drives including full support for CP/M MFM disks. It also brings cartridge emulation, REU emulation and more. To buy the UII+ (you might need some patience as they sell faster than the creator can build them): ultimate64.com/U2PLBLKIf you decide to obtain an Ultimate II+, also Dutch made by the way, do reach out, as either me or Bart van Leeuwen most probably are more then happy to get you on the way with settings, tips and stuff.
