Star Traders 128
Commodore 128 Adaptation of Singer's Star Lanes / Zaitseff's Star Traders - by XmikeX, 13-DEC-2018
- A MINOR HISTORICAL REINCARNATION, available here: csdb.dk/release/index.php?id=172473
Nothing spectacular here, of course. This is just an exercise in re-learning how to adapt "other BASIC" to BASIC V7, how to minimize/crunch BASIC V7 script, how to use the 128's screen editor to some advantage, and how to tool with the ABACUS BASIC 128 V1.03 compiler. This release follows the original game closely, with C-128 screen editor enhancements.
The game is best played with more than one person. Single player mode is best for learning the game mechanics. The mechanics displays elements of Go and Generic StockMarket Play. The mechanics are simple but it is worth reading the help documentation provided inside the game.
This release attempts to adhere to GPL3 due to possible Zaitseff GPL3'ing of versions used to create this C-128 version (see wiki text below). Versions of the game for other platforms are included, just in case. =)

Star Trader is a 1974 video game and an early example of the space trading genre. The game involves a single player moving from star to star on a map of the galaxy, buying and selling quantities of six types of merchandise in order to make money. The game was developed by Dave Kaufman for computers in 1973, and its BASIC source code was printed in the January 1974 issue of the People's Computer Company Newsletter.

Several unrelated but similar space trading games have been released under the name Star Trader. One such game was released by Bug Byte Software in 1984 for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64, and was one of the games included with the Softaid compilation. Another was written by S. J. Singer in 1984 using Altair Basic, and modified by John Zaitseff for Microsoft Basic under the CP/M-80 operating system in 1988. Completely rewritten versions for CP/M-80, CP/M-86, MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Linux followed, with the latest release for Linux occurring in August, 2017. All versions by John Zaitseff have been released or relicensed under the GNU General Public License v3.
