If you are using your C128 with an Ultimate II cartridge, have a look at this device manager found at

The author writes, "It is first of all intended to be used as a 'custom external 128 rom' with an UII(+) cartridge, but should work at least in the external rom slot of a 1750 reu. Didn't check if it works in the internal slot, it doesn't require an UII, through gets more functionality with one." Excuse me for my lack of knowledge, but may i ask if this rom can be used with another cartdridge instead of the "pricey" UII+ ?
What type of romchip i need and which programmer? i did not find it already burnt e.g on ebay.
I have an 128dcr modified with jiffydos and i want to by-pass the internal drive and use sd2iec oftenly.
I prefer not to make any hardmod to my computer like cutting traces or installin switches. I have 100s of floppies i also want to use sometimes.
thanks in advance.....

I'm going to give this a try right now. I have a spare UII cartridge lying around anyway.
I have no idea how I can enter the ROM menu to change any setting though... Any ideas?

fisherman, you can put it on a 32kb eprom and install that in socket U36 of your C128. wiebo the UII has a button for entering the menu, however, before using the device manager rom, make sure your UII is at the most recent firmware. @all sometime next week a new version will be released adding options to manually configure drives, extra system information, and integrated C128 diagnostics.

@bart For me that doesn't work on my C128D CR... Nothing happens when I press the cartridge button. And I am using the latest FW (3.6a)

From there, you should be able to select the rom file and use it as cartridge rom.
It activates at boot, it will not respond to any buttons on the cartridge.

I have the ROM selected, and it sees the 1571 on boot, no problem. But does the ROM have any configuration screens? And if yes, how can I access them? Because now I see no added value of using this.

If you have the current (as of this writing) 1.08 version, it will let you configure some things from the startup screen, but, this rom is only really usefull if you at least have multiple drives, and offers more when you have an Ultimate II. If you do, enable its first drive, and have both your 1571 and the drive of the UII configured at id 8, and you'll see why it can be usefull, especially for C128D users.
